Three time Newbery Honor book

When Brian’s pilot gets a heart attack and pulls the plane off course, Brian tries landing it on a lake. Miraculously, he survives and is stranded in the wilderness with only a Hatchet his mother gave him. Hatchet is an exciting story where Brian has to survive in the Canadian woods, with many flashbacks of bad memories. He faces many problems, like getting food, meat, a good fire, and weapons and tools. He has many mistakes and learns from all of them. In the end, he will never be the same again.
This book has lots of exiting twist and turns to the whole book. It is kind of slow to get to the exiting points, but it is worth the wait. He finds out how to kill fish, and from the fish remains, trap lots of fish. He builds a bow, arrows, and a spear. With only these weapons, he survives 3 summer months all alone in the Canadian woods. Could you do all of that?

In the end Hatchet is a book where Brian is stranded in the Canadian woods for three months with only a few basic tools. He survives many hard times and lives for all three months. You might even have to do this too!
Tennis Shoes among the Nephites

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Recommendation: 8+

Summary: Jim Hawkins, Garth Plimpton, and Jim’s annoying sister, Jennifer get sucked back into time to when the Nephites lived. When they get there they find that they can understand every language that is spoken. After an escape for a Laminate army. They join the Nephite army as respected interpreters. The thing is, will they survive the battle between the Nephite and the Laminate army? And after that, how will they get back to the time in which they live?

Why I like this book: I like Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites because it shows that you can make a difference in the world, even if you are from 100s of years later. Jim, before he came to the Nephite land, had a bad attitude, especially about church. After he went to the Nephite lands he loved the gospel. I want to be like Jim and try to love the gospel, even when I don’t really like it.

Hope you enjoyed this post and read the book. Be sure to leave a comment!
